Assortment
On our nursery, you will find a very diverse range, of at least 250 different varieties, at any one time. The numbers per variety have been kept limited on purpose, a few dozen of each is the standard. We enjoy the challenge of improving and enlarging the assortment. To facilitate the renewal of the assortment, excellent relationships with other specialist nurseries and collector’s gardens throughout Europe and further afield are maintained.
W&Z selects varieties based on disease resistance and winter hardiness. However, the selection is also done with an eye on shape, beauty, purpose, and ease of growing in the garden. Through our cooperation with our sister company, Valkplant, we are at the forefront of plant innovation. Also, W&Z often functions as one of the first commercial open-ground test sites for brand-new varieties.
The ‘slower’ production process, where plants stay in position for at least two and a half years, allows us to give our plants a nice and sometimes different structure so that landscapers and architects can propose a ‘different’ or mature plant.
